Abstract
This study focuses on the results of pre-university education in the public sector in the Dominican Republic, based on student performance in the 2024 national tests. The main objective was to characterize the results of the national tests in Spanish Language, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences. To this end, a quantitative methodology with a non-experimental, cross-sectional comparative design was used, based on the analysis of secondary data from the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic, covering 245,434 students from all modalities who attended the first exam session in the public sector. The data show that 75.47% passed the tests and 24.53% failed. The Technical-Professional modality showed the highest performance in the four areas of knowledge, with averages ranging from 59.13 to 59.73 points, followed by the Technical Arts modality with averages between 55.29 and 55.70 points. Finally, the Academic Modality had the lowest averages, between 53.85 and 55.04 points. It is concluded that pre-university education in the public sector in the Dominican Republic showed unfavorable results, as the averages in the 2024 national tests are lower than those recorded in previous years. Therefore, it is recommended that improvement plans be implemented to strengthen student performance, mainly in the Academic Modality.
