Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are clearly associated and represent a growing health problem of epidemiological proportions worldwide, including in the Dominican Republic, and are considered the new epidemic of the 21st century.
Materials and Methods: This article narrative reviews the pathophysiological association of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) between T2DM and CVD, thereby understanding the epidemiological, genetic, and epigenetic evolution of both diseases.
Results: Various lncRNAs, such as ANRIL, LINC-PINT, MALAT-1, LIPCAR, SENCR, and MIAT, have been identified in patients with T2DM and cardiovascular complications, suggesting their potential role in predicting cardiovascular events erifying n=20 articles.
Conclusions: Research on lncRNAs in the context of CVD in patients with T2DM may offer innovative solutions to address the high cardiovascular risk associated with T2DM.
