Ciencia y Salud
To contribute to the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field of health sciences, strengthening research, academic training, and scientific debate in the Dominican Republic and Latin America, with a focus on quality, ethics, and the social relevance of published works.
Founded in September 2017, Ciencia y Salud is a quarterly journal (January-April, May-August, September-December) published and fully sponsored by the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Dominican Republic.
This publication focuses on health sciences and publishes original articles and works related to medical sciences, epidemiology, and public health. The journal’s thematic scope prioritizes original and unpublished articles in areas such as public health, nutrition, health policies, social security, health statistics, health education, mental health, medical ethics, epidemiological surveillance, epidemiology, health administration, health promotion, health systems and services, and various approaches to evidence-based medicine and medical education. The Editorial Committee places special value on case reports and updates on emerging topics. The purpose of the journal is to foster and disseminate research conducted in the health sector in the Dominican Republic and the Latin American region. The publication is aimed at physicians, professors, researchers, and health sciences students.
The receipt of a manuscript does not imply, under any condition, its publication. All texts received will be reviewed by the Editorial Committee and sent for review by external peers, who will use their expertise to decide whether or not it can be published. The review is conducted anonymously and using a double-blind methodology. The process is as follows: the editor and the Editorial Committee pre-qualify the text. If it meets the requirements according to the journal's checklist, it is sent for review by two experts in the field. For this review, a guide is attached with explicit criteria to be considered.
Peers are chosen for their intellectual capacity and academic background, as well as their practice in the field of Medicine and their number of publications in the relevant field, or their prior training locally or internationally in the field of specialized research in the area of Health.
The Editorial Committee reserves the right to accept, reject, request modifications, and make any corrections it deems necessary to align the texts with the policy and the Citation style for this publication.
Once the article has been submitted through Open Journal Systems (OJS), the prequalification process, and peer review, the authors are notified of the publication decision. The process takes approximately six weeks.
The decision to accept or reject a paper is strictly based on a peer review process. Referees or reviewers, in all cases, receive manuscripts with the first title page blank for the authors and/or institution, to ensure an impartial, anonymous, and objective review.
Authors must adhere to the criteria and guidelines of research ethics and publication ethics. The journal adheres to the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the International Code of Medical Ethics.
Science and Health promotes open access to all content it publishes. The review, editing, and publication processes are free for authors. There is also no cost to view or read the content
All content published in Ciencia y Salud, including texts, images, graphics, tables, and other materials, is protected by national and international intellectual property and copyright laws. Articles are disseminated under the principles of open access, which allows reading, downloading, storing, printing, searching, indexing, and linking to full texts, provided that the source is properly cited, authorship is acknowledged, and no commercial use is made.
The use of the website and its content is the sole responsibility of the user. The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Editorial Committee of Ciencia y Salud are not responsible for any misuse of the information or for any damages or losses resulting from such misuse. The journal does not guarantee that the contents are free from errors or omissions, although every reasonable effort is made to ensure their accuracy and currency.
Authors retain the moral rights to their work, granting Ciencia y Salud the rights of reproduction, distribution, and public communication for academic and scientific dissemination purposes, under the open access conditions established by the journal. Published articles may be reused for non-commercial purposes, provided that the source is cited and authorship is acknowledged.
Each author is solely responsible for the content of their manuscript, including the accuracy of the data, the originality of the text, obtaining the necessary permissions for the use of protected material, and compliance with current ethical and legal standards. The journal and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) assume no responsibility for the opinions, interpretations, or conclusions expressed in published articles, which are the sole responsibility of their authors.
Retraction policy:
This journal promotes the integrity and academic rigor of published texts. Only articles of scientific quality and relevance are published. Therefore, if any work is found to contain irregularities or fraudulent information, the author will be notified accordingly, and the text will be immediately removed from the database. Unacceptable practices include the following: data manipulation; simultaneous submission of the same work to multiple journals; duplicate publication (or publication with irrelevant changes) of the same work once it has been published in this journal, for which the text itself may be removed from the website; artificial fragmentation of a work into multiple articles, among other serious violations.

Ciencia y Salud promotes gender equality at all stages of the editorial process and in the content it publishes. The journal encourages the use of inclusive and non-sexist language, and avoids expressions that perpetuate gender stereotypes or biases. Authors are encouraged to report, when relevant, sex- and gender-disaggregated data, as well as to analyze and discuss potential differences in results according to these variables. The Editorial Committee strives for equitable gender representation within the editorial team, the pool of reviewers, and among authors, and adopts measures to ensure that editorial policies promote diversity and equity.
Science and Health does not charge any fees for submitting, processing, or publishing articles. The process is completely free; there is no cost for reading the texts either. The journal distributes its contents in full text under the philosophy of open access to scientific or academic information.
Original article, clinical cases, theoretical/technical notes, reviews, editorial and letters to the editor
Details each author's contribution to the study, indicating who performed which activities. The authors confirm their contribution to the article as follows: study conception and design: Author X, Author Y; data collection: Author Y; analysis and interpretation of results: Author X, Author Y, Author Z; preparation of preliminary manuscript: Author Y, Author Z. All authors reviewed the results and approved the final version of the manuscript.
Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online manuscript management system. Files must be in Word or PDF format, and the instructions provided on the journal's website must be followed to complete the submission process.
The Vancouver citation style is required for all citations and references. In-text citations should be numbered consecutively according to their appearance in the text, using Arabic numerals in brackets (e.g., [1], [2]), and the reference list at the end of the manuscript should be numbered in the same order in which they appear in the text. https://icmje.org/recommendations/
The original manuscript and author information are sent in a separate file along with the letter of authorization for publication.

Acknowledge (if applicable) individuals or institutions that contributed to the study but do not meet the criteria to be authors.
