The purpose of this case study is to analyze the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in a Higher Education Institution (HEI), focusing on how students integrated the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into an interdepartmental project with community impact. A case study was conducted with 143 students, who developed initiatives related to the SDGs in collaboration with a local NGO, explaining the shared leadership approach. Cognitive, behavioral, and socio-emotional learning dimensions were integrated. Over 85% of the participants improved their understanding of the SDGs, while 71% expressed interest in long-term sustainable development projects. Additionally, 75% of the students indicated their intention to continue participating in community service activities. The initiative demonstrated that ESD can be an effective link to promote community engagement and the development of sustainable competencies, highlighting the need for shared leadership in inter-institutional and interdepartmental collaboration.
