Mission

To promote scientific communication and educational innovation in the field of Higher Education, as well as to encourage critical reflection on the current challenges and transformations in university teaching.

Brief History

Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria was created in 2004 by the Centro de Desarrollo Profesoral (CDP) at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM). The journal was published in print format until 2018, and since 2014 it has also been made available to readers in an electronic version through the Open Journal System (OJS) platform. The email is cuaderno@pucmm.edu.do. The CDP was created in 1996 so that the teaching staff could carry out postgraduate studies abroad in the disciplinary and pedagogical areas. The CDP is an academic center of the PUCMM that, under the dependency of the Academic Vice-rectory (VA), is responsible for directing academic management and teacher development.

Editorial policy

Open Science Compliance
Open data
  • The journal follows a Diamond Open Access model; therefore, it does not charge APC (Article Processing Charges) or any other type of publication-related fee to authors, nor does it require payment for access or consultation by readers. Its operation and sustainability are supported through institutional funding provided by the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM).

This policy is based on the conviction that providing free public access to research promotes a broader global exchange of knowledge. Therefore, all published articles are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY), whose terms may be consulted here.

The journal authorizes the full or partial reproduction of its content, provided that the source is properly cited, including the journal title, author(s), year, volume, issue number, and page range.

The ideas and claims expressed in the articles are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the journal.

Authors are required to sign and submit the Article Evaluation and Publication Authorization form supplied by the journal, which is aligned with the CC BY license. The form may be downloaded here and must be signed by all authors listed in the manuscript. If this is not possible, the signatory or signatories must declare that they are duly authorized by any non-signing authors to proceed with the transfer of rights described in the document.

The journal allows and encourages authors to deposit their published work in academic repositories or on their personal or institutional websites after the release of the issue in which the article appears, with the purpose of promoting wider dissemination.

Preprint
  • The journal accepts submissions of manuscripts that have previously been deposited as preprints in trustworthy academic repositories—either institutional or specialized—provided that this condition is explicitly stated on the first page of the manuscript and in the cover letter. While depositing a preprint is not mandatory, it is recognized as a practice aligned with the principles of Open Science, as it enables early dissemination of research findings prior to peer review and editorial processing. Once the article has been published in the journal, the preprint version will also be made available on the journal’s website as part of the manuscript’s documentary history, along with its corresponding metadata, and without removing the original file from the repository in which it was deposited. Preprints must not be hosted on personal websites, social media, or informal digital platforms, but only in repositories that guarantee proper metadata management, digital preservation, and traceability. The coexistence of the preprint, the accepted version (postprint), and the final published version enhances transparency, openness, and understanding of the scientific knowledge development process.

Informed peer review
  • The journal operates under a double-blind peer review system. All submissions undergo an initial internal screening conducted by the Editorial Board to evaluate relevance, coherence, contribution, and scope, as well as to determine whether the manuscript should continue to the external review stage carried out by the Scientific Committee, composed of expert reviewers who ensure the academic quality of the articles.

The outcomes of the double-blind peer review may be one of the following: a) the article may be published in its original version; b) the article may be published after incorporating the suggested revisions; or c) the article should not be published.

Following the reviewers’ recommendations, the journal reserves the right not to publish any manuscript that does not comply with the suggested revisions or with the journal’s standards. In cases where the two assigned reviewers issue substantially divergent judgments, a third reviewer will be invited to evaluate the manuscript independently and without access to previous reviews. The editorial decision will be based on the two most similar evaluations. The peer review process takes approximately two months.

If revisions are requested, authors must submit the revised version within15 days for further assessment. The Editorial Board will issue the final acceptance decision and notify the authors within one month.

The average duration of the entire editorial process, including final corrections (writing style, formatting, and citation compliance) and layout design, is approximately six months.

Ethics

The journal Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria adheres to the Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors (http://publicationethics.org/files/u2/Best_Practice.pdf) and to the ethical standards established by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), as well as to the provisions of Law No. 172-13 (2013) regarding the handling of personal data and Law No. 65-00 on Copyright (August 21, 2000) of the Dominican Republic.

    Guidelines for Authors

All manuscripts submitted for publication in Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria must undergo thorough internal revision by the authors prior to submission and must comply with the journal’s policies.

Any research involving individuals, groups, or organizations must include proof of informed consent or formal authorization, which must be submitted along with the manuscript.

Each submitted manuscript must be original and authored by the persons listed. Translations of previously published works are not considered original contributions for submission purposes.

Although the reuse of theoretical foundations, methodological descriptions, or conceptual frameworks from an author’s previous work is not considered self-plagiarism, the manuscript’s contributions, results, and conclusions must be substantially new and not previously published, whether by the same authors or others.

All authors must declare that the manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not under review in any other journal or editorial platform. In the case of preprint manuscripts, this must be explicitly declared.

If an author is a member of the journal’s Editorial Board, they will be excluded from all review and decision-making processes related to their manuscript.

    Guidelines for Peer Reviewers

The Editorial Board invites qualified reviewers with relevant expertise according to the subject area of the submitted manuscript. If a reviewer considers they lack the appropriate expertise, available time, or have a conflict of interest, they must notify the Editorial Board promptly so that the manuscript can be reassigned.

Reviewers must provide reports that are clear, constructive, rigorous, and respectful, avoiding any offensive language, enabling the Editorial Board to reach an informed decision.

Manuscripts sent to reviewers are strictly confidential and may only be used for evaluation purposes. Citing, sharing, or using information, data, or ideas from an unpublished manuscript without written permission constitutes misconduct and unauthorized use. Any matters not expressly addressed in the previous section shall be resolved in accordance with the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines.

Ethics Committee

The editorial committee of the journal invites experienced researchers in the respective areas of the submitted works to act as peer reviewers. However, if the reviewer believes they are not qualified, do not have the time, or have a conflict of interest to evaluate a document, they must inform the editorial committee, which will then assign another reviewer to evaluate the work.

Copyright

Matters related to copyright are described in the Access Policy section. Regarding authorship contributions, the policy states the following: Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria requires that, prior to submitting a manuscript, each author conducts an authorship attribution assessment, ensuring that the contribution of each author to the work can be clearly identified. The journal recommends using the authorship criteria established by the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy). Likewise, in the final version of the manuscript, authors must include an Authors’ Contributions section specifying the role and contribution of each author.

The journal considers as an author any individual who has:

  1. Made substantial contributions to the conceptualization, justification, and/or design of the study;
  2. Participated in the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of the data;
  3. Contributed to the writing or critical revision of the manuscript, adding relevant scientific value to its development.

Any person listed as an author must assume full responsibility for all aspects of the manuscript and be available to respond to inquiries regarding the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work.

Contributors who do not meet the authorship criteria should not be listed as authors; however, they must be recognized in the Acknowledgments section.

Additionally, authors must carefully review and confirm the order of authorship prior to submitting the manuscript. Any request to add, remove, or modify the order of authors during the review process or after acceptance must be formally submitted through a written communication signed by all authors, sent to the Editorial Committee via email, explaining and justifying the requested change. The Editorial Committee will evaluate the request and apply the change only when deemed warranted.

Intellectual Property
  • Author responsibility:

In cases deemed necessary, the journal will publish corrections or retractions of previously published articles. Corrections involve the publication of an additional document acknowledging the error(s) identified and providing the corresponding amendment. In the case of retractions, a document is issued acknowledging unintentional or intentional inaccuracies present in the original article; such inaccuracies may include, among others, plagiarism or the manipulation of data or images, which undermine the validity of the reported results.

Ethics and Misconduct Policy

Retraction policy:

  • When necessary, the journal will publish corrections and retractions of published works. The first case (corrections) involves the publication of an additional document to the work, recognizing the errors and presenting their respective correction. In the case of retractions, a document is published acknowledging involuntary or intentional inaccuracies in the work. These inaccuracies can include plagiarism or the presentation of manipulated data or images that invalidate the obtained results.

Conflict of Interest Policy
  • During the manuscript submission process, the submitting author must disclose any conflicts of interest related to the work by sending a formal communication to the journal’s editorial address. If the article is accepted for publication, this information will be included in the final version under the section Conflict of Interest.

Gender issues
  • The journal promotes the use of respectful, clear, and non-discriminatory language. Authors are encouraged to use inclusive and non-sexist linguistic forms. The writing style established in this policy favors the use of collective nouns and terms that encompass all individuals, such as teaching staff, academic community, among others.

Authors are invited to maintain a balance between inclusivity and linguistic economy, prioritizing grammatically coherent solutions. Whenever possible, unnecessary gender-based duplications (for example, male and female teachers) should be avoided.

Each author must attach a front-facing color picture of themselves, on a white background, in any of the following formats: .gift, .png, or .jpg, with a size not less than 7.0 pixels.

Citations and references

APA style is required for the use of citations. Here are some cases:

  • When the direct or textual quotation is short (less than 40 words), it is placed as part of the text of the report, in quotes, following the wording of the paragraph where the appointment is made. For example:
In the investigation process, "one should not start writing until one has completed the study." (Acosta Hoyos, 1979, p. 107).
  • When the direct or textual quotation is 40 or more words, it is cited in a block, without quotes, in simple spaces, leaving an indentation within the text of the report.
  • The bibliographic references are included at the end of the document, if applicable. They are sorted alphabetically and written according to the APA style. Here are some examples:
    Books:
Surname, A. A., Surname, B. B. and Surname, C. C. (Year of publication). Document title: subtitle (Edition). Editorial.
    Article in periodicals:
Author, A., Author, B. and Author, C. (Year of publication month / month). Article title. Title of the periodic publication in italics, Vol., (No.), Initial - final page.
    Electronic Journal:
Author, A., Author, B. and Author, C. (Year of publication month / month). Article title. Title of the periodic publication in italics, Vol., (No.), Initial - final page. [URL]
Supplementary Documents Required for Submission

Authors should upload their article to the platform https://www.turnitin.com with the key we will offer you so that we can detect any case of plagiarism in academic work.

Financing Statement

Authors must clearly indicate in their manuscript whether the research received financial support, grants, or any other type of economic assistance. This information should be included in a section titled “Funding” and must specify the funding agency, grant or project number (when applicable), and the role that such support played in the design, execution, or dissemination of the study. If the research did not receive external financial support, authors must explicitly state: “The authors received no external funding for this work.”

Acknowledgments

In the “Acknowledgments” section, authors may express appreciation to individuals or institutions that contributed significantly to the development of the study but do not meet the authorship criteria. This may include technical assistance, academic guidance, data access, or general institutional support. This section should not be used for personal dedications, unrelated expressions of gratitude, or the mention of commercial entities that did not directly contribute to the research project.
