Open-access Verbal Impoliteness: Didactic Sequence to Analyze the Presence of this Phenomenon in Bachata

Abstract  In the musical realm, popular genres like bachata reflect cultural values and often reproduce gender dynamics that influence the social perception of certain groups. The aim of this didactic sequence is to guide the analysis of verbal discourtesy towards women in bachata and foster participants' reflection on the effects these practices may have. The selected methodology consists of the analysis of songs performed by representative artists of this musical genre. The categories considered for analysis are insults, irony, and contempt. The proposal is structured in several phases: a conceptual approach to verbal discourtesy and bachata, the content analysis of the songs, and the systematization of findings through the writing of an expository text. The flexibility of the proposal allows for its adaptation to different educational contexts and facilitates its implementation as a pedagogical tool in the development of pragmatic competence and the critical analysis of musical discourse.
