Clinical case: A 28-year-old patient with decreased bone mineral density secondary to the use of oral and intravenous corticosteroids for treatment of a joint injury with long-standing persistent pain, treatment was initiated with calcium 1500 mg and vitamin D3 400 IU. The patient will be followed annually for bone densitometry and blood biomarker monitoring.
Conclusion: a thorough search for the underlying cause is important to determine treatment. Further studies are needed to evaluate bisphosphonate treatment, as there are no established guidelines for their use in young women.
