Abstract
The calculation of the multidimensional poverty index (MPI) is studied for the municipal districts of Los Alcarrizos, Pantoja and Palmarejo -Villa Linda, using the information collected by the agency Sistema Unico de Beneficiarios (SIUBEN) in 2021. Since it could not be collected all the data necessary to calculate the MPI, an alternative to the Alkire-Foster method is proposed, where, instead of using counters, proportions are used to determine the impact of deprivation indicators. It was necessary to use approximations of the indicators where the SIUBEN report did not clarify the information. Using simulation to assign the weights, it was determined that a better criterion is needed than simply standardizing the weights of the five (5) dimensions of deprivation. This study contributes with the application of the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method to determine the weights of the deprivation indicators, eliminating the need to use arbitrary values for them.
