Abstract:
In recent decades in Chile, on more than one occasion the Armed Forces (FF. AA.) have been involved in Internal Security issues, which puts into discussion not only the conceptualization of the National Defense Policy, but also the limits between Internal Security and External Security and the opening to new powers of the Armed Forces from a Mission reformulation, based on which new roles are assigned, many of them closely linked to Internal Security. Coupled with this, the operation and Jurisdiction of the Military Courts in times of Peace is also being debated, in the context of Crimes of Uniformed Personnel in Acts of Service and possible violations of Human Rights. All of the above, without questioning the need to have a National Defense Policy with “reinforced” Armed Forces for the Defense of the Nation-State and Defense of Democracy. This article is limited to the indicated themes, being the result of a Documentary Research (with a cohort in the years 2002 to 2022), within the framework of a Case Study (as a Methodological Strategy): unique national case (Chile).
